I was born in Grantham and educated at The Kings School ( grammar school )
When I first left school I joined the Post Office as a counter clerk but a succession of late nights and late mornings saw me leaving as soon as my probation had finished
The reason for my inability to stay awake during the day was due to my being a singer with a local rock band called the Kobalts (they still do gigs today but with a new vocalist)
After a few years working in an office I re-trained as a motor mechanic and moved to London to be near my new girlfriend (soon to be my new -and present-wife)
Margaret married me in 1970 (brave girl!) and one year later we moved to our new home in Arnold and we are still here
In 2000 we decided on a new career working together as security guards doing 24 hour security for television outside broadcasts.We covered football cricket, tennis, snooker,darts, major golf tournaments and a few pop concerts. All in all an interesting but tiring job and we didn’t have any trouble in almost seven years work
We retired and now enjoy the delights of our two children and two grand-children and somedays it feels like we are still working !
Our main hobbies include gardening and trips away in our motorhome
I’ve written poetry and a few short stories since school but until meeting Gillian and Thomas I didn’t consider them to be anything but for my own or family enjoyment
Don Holmes
Don Holmes is a big hit with Poetree Creations.He was one of the very first poets to send poetry into our site,which has now been running for nearly a year.Don won our second poetry competition with a poem called Valient Knight.
Don is very professional in his writing,and as a person.He has been very supportive to the team,and is now a team member.
Don is very proactive with activities we involve him in, and gives a lot of support in administration for the website.
